I found a video review of the Yamaha APX500 searching on YouTube:
Pretty technical as he talks about the materials used for making the body, tuners, etc., and specifications of the fretboard and pick-ups. This guy seems to know his stuff.
He does play the guitar to give some sense of sound (obviously the best option is to pick one up at a store, but this will give you a taste). Good player, so not just your typical Stairway to Heaven test :> .
However, also looks like he had some issues with the guitar, as the information below the video details about 3 weeks worth of trying to get his guitar looked at and fixed. Looks like more of an issue with the store he bought it from, but it’s a quick read to check for yourself.
You’ll also find a number of comments, and may learn more from there as well.
Back to the sound. He gets into the sounds of the harmonics, sustain, intonation, dynamics, and amplification (being an acoustic electric guitar and all), again giving you a feel for the sound of the Yamaha.
All-and-all a good video to check out, and about halfway through he lists the pros and cons, if you’re looking for the quick summary.
Obviously lots of reviews out there — both video and written, and given musical, and musical instruments, can be a subjective experience best to check out a few to get a balanced approach (as well as picking up the guitar itself and trying it out).
However, I found this video review helpful without being hyperbolic, fanboy, “look at my guitar” stuff. Good job, and hope you enjoy it as well.
